things to think about when building Green

My wife is trying to come up with ways that the place where she works can become more "eco-friendly" and she asked for my input. So here Babe, here you go:
Anybody who works in a public space has to consider a number of things when deciding to undertake any real changes in the way the space functions:

1. Who do the changes affect? Are you changing the space because you have to, because you can make it more useful and efficient for the people that use it? Or is it changing because the needs of the ownership have changed?
2. What are the easiest (sometimes cheapest) changes to make? What changes can have the greatest effect with barely anyone noticing? For example:Is a "living roof" really the answer, or could a revamp of the recycling program free up the same amount of resources with less effort and cost?
3. Who's on board? The greatest ideas need support to start rolling and keep moving.
4. Do the changes need sustained effort to have the greatest value? Or will they "pay for themselves" once implemented?

Thats the best I can do today without writing a paper. Please send specific suggestions for this list or any other comments directly to this blog.

Here are 5 (at&T specific, sorry) ways you can use telcom products to help create a cleaner environment!
1. Use Google text:46645 for directory assistance, save gas, time, headaches.
2. Use TeleNav or another GPS product when traveling long distances for the most efficient travel. you also save paper because the maps are on your phone.
3. Use TeleNav to find the cheapest gas prices nearest to wherever you are!
4. text all your friends and carpool to the spot instead of everybody driving (please designate a driver).
5. send email from your handset, save electricity!!

over Xmas, my sister showed me a book by this guy who makes these really elaborate presentations using all natural components. like stacking rocks by color so they look natural and yet unnatural at the same time. I can't remember his name but I think I was inspired.

thunderstorm, almost tornado

we actually headed for the closet this night. just in case. but the storm passed and we still have a rented home. this is definitely the scariest part about living in Oklahoma. pretty awesome lightning show, though.

So, the company once accused of killing the electric car is determined to produce one now. GM unveiled the VOLT concept car recently, which carries gas simply to recharge the battery. Is it better than the long awaited Tesla? What about the tiny Zebra?
I like this change in GMs attitude, however trendy it may seem. The important thing is that something gets done. I don't know how much I trust fuel cell concepts (how do you get the water back once you've broken it?) but the general swing toward all things green and clean excites me. What did you do today to change your environment for the better? I walked to work, recycled paper...thats about it. Admittedly I didn't even think about it till right now, but there you go! It's easy!

so, today I was that person you have to look out for on the road. this was the sky on my way home from tahlequah, where I work. now we're sitting here under a tornado warning... watching the lightning and mootpt playing the guitar.
